As much as Netflix has dropped the ball on various shows, they have also produced a lot of good ones. Netflix’s live action adaptation of ATLA is looking pretty solid so far in terms of casting, and I’m pretty optimistic. On one hand, we might get a decent live action show through Netflix, and on the other, we’ll get new animated content with original creators’ vision for years to come through Paramount+. I think this was the best outcome we could hope for. Avatar Studios was going to happen with or without them, and they hopped on the train when the seats were available. Additionally, I doubt they would want someone else to lead an IP they created all those years ago. And from the original creators’ perspective, this is a much more enticing offer than handling a live action show, which they have no experience in. They likely gave the original creators a total creative freedom with a large budget. If successful, Avatar Studios could be one of their major revenue stream. Think about it: 2019-2020 saw a huge resurgence in ATLA’s popularity, and Paramount (Nicklodeon) likely wanted to capitalize on this through their Paramount+ streaming service. “Creative differences” seems like a convenient and safe phrasing they used to cut ties with the live action project. ![]() Tinfoil hat - I believe the original creators left the live action project because they received an offer they couldn’t refuse with Avatar Studios. “Creative differences” between Netflix and the original creators of ATLA ![]()
